A forecast is not an alert
Everyone on a jobsite already has a weather app. What nobody has is a system that knows the difference between weather and a problem. Thirty-eight degrees overnight is irrelevant on a framing day and expensive on the second night after a pour. Sixty percent rain probability is a non-event for interior finishes and a go/no-go for a tear-off. The gap is not forecast data. The gap is the comparison between the forecast and the specific limits of the specific material sitting on the specific site, made early enough that somebody can still change the plan. That comparison is the entire product.
How the pipeline works
The flow is deliberately boring and observable at every hop, which is what makes it dependable.
- Fetch: forecasts are pulled per site on a recurring schedule, several times per day, and can be refreshed by hand from the site page.
- Blend: Open-Meteo and the National Weather Service are merged with conservative rules. We take the minimum for cold-sensitive checks and the maximum for heat, humidity, and precipitation, so one provider outlier cannot talk you out of protecting the work.
- Evaluate: each armed material stage is checked against its own thresholds, not against a site-wide default.
- Notify: matching contacts receive an email with the condition, the threshold it crossed, and the forecast window it applies to.
- Record: every evaluation and every send is written to an alert log with a timestamp, so a missing alert is a question you can answer instead of a mystery.
Thresholds that reflect how trades actually work
Defaults are a starting point, not an answer. The values below are commonly cited industry reference points that crews adapt to their own specs. Every one of them is configurable per material and per stage in MaterialTrak, and the product ships templates rather than mandates.

Lead time is the feature
A 48-hour default forecast window with per-material overrides gives crews a day to reschedule rather than an hour to scramble. On top of that, a heads-up "may be at risk" notice fires before the threshold is fully breached, typically 3 degrees Fahrenheit or 5 percent humidity in advance. That pre-warning exists because the difference between a saved pour and a rework order is usually one evening of staging blankets, tarps, or heat.

Which weather metrics are tracked?
Temperature (high and low), relative humidity, precipitation probability or amount, and forecast UV index, with custom thresholds per material and per stage. UV uses the forecast index only, not cumulative exposure hours. No other conditions are monitored.
How often are forecasts refreshed?
Forecasts refresh several times per day on a recurring schedule. Manual refresh is available from each site page.
What happens if a weather provider is down?
The merge layer uses more than one provider and applies conservative rules. Fetch failures are logged and surfaced internally so a silent monitoring gap becomes a tracked issue rather than an unnoticed one.
Do alerts wake people up at night?
Quiet hours are configurable per site in the site timezone. Alerts suppressed by quiet hours are still recorded in the alert history.
Does it work outside the United States?
The platform is built around US jobsites today. Open-Meteo data is available worldwide, but support and primary tuning are US-focused.
